Challenging the administration’s so-called ‘God Squad’ attack against endangered species

In a meeting that lasted less than 20 minutes, a handful of Trump administration officials took the unprecedented step of allowing all oil and gas activities in the Gulf to bypass legal protections for endangered species.
Sea turtles, whales, and other marine life already on the brink in this global biodiversity hotspot could be pushed closer to extinction—or lost forever.
The administration granted the broadest exemption from the Endangered Species Act possible for all leasing, drilling, and production in the Gulf. That means all oil and gas activities in this region can move forward without regulation or mitigation measures that have, for decades, protected wildlife while allowing energy development.
Supporters like you helped stop offshore drilling along the Atlantic Coast. And we know you’ll stand with us again as we fight this dangerous effort to expose wildlife in the Gulf to more harm from drilling.
If this administration is allowed to unilaterally sidestep these safeguards through vague claims of national security—without evidence, without proper findings, and without following the law—it sets a dangerous precedent that could have devastating impacts far beyond the Gulf.
Alongside the National Wildlife Federation, Florida Wildlife Federation, Louisiana Wildlife Federation, the Texas Conservation Association, and the National Parks Conservation Association, we just filed suit against the Trump administration for this egregious abuse of power.
