Sofia Piracha

Sofia Piracha

Marketing Associate

In the Richmond office, Sofia supports the marketing team in various roles. She manages advertising contracts and relationships with outside vendors, and coordinates with the design team to create marketing materials that share SELC’s story. Sofia also assists with events and sponsorships such as award programs, conferences, and festivals. At SELC, Sofia also explores opportunities to reach new audiences and increase awareness of SELC, its mission, and collective work.

“I am a strong believer in the power of community leadership and local action when it comes to tackling large scale environmental challenges,” Sofia said. “It is a joy to work alongside creative and passionate people advancing solutions right here in the region we love, while also helping to shape environmental progress nationwide.”

The SELC work that makes Sofia most proud is its commitment to environmental justice and addressing systemic inequalities across the South. “Clean air and clean water protections are directly linked with community health, and I admire SELC’s work to mitigate environmental harm in communities most disproportionately impacted by pollution and climate change,” she said.

Sofia was born in Ann Arbor, Mich., and moved to Richmond as a child. “Like most Richmonders, I grew up swimming and playing in the James River,” she said. “Walking the trails around the river or laying out on the rocks with a good book is still my happy place.”
