Shaniqua Williams
Legal Assistant/Office Administrator II
Shaniqua oversees budgeting, greets guests, answers phones, schedules meetings, plans events, onboards new employees, and takes care of other administrative tasks at the Birmingham office.
“Standing up for what’s right is why I work for SELC,” Shaniqua said. “I’m proud to be a part of an organization that helps support Black and Brown communities that don’t always have a voice. I also truly admire our commitment to fighting for clean water, healthy air and a cleaner, healthier future for all Southerners.”
She is a lifelong resident of Alabama, which is her favorite place in the SELC footprint. She is proud to have supported the difference made by SELC in stopping the Belle Mina Rock Quarry from operating in a historic community.
“The defendants were required to move all rock-crushing equipment and stockpiles farther away from the plaintiffs’ homes. This was a major win, and I’m grateful to have contributed to it. I attended the hearing, and people thought I was a reporter. When I told them that I was with SELC, they responded, ‘Oh, you’re on our side.’ It truly meant a lot to me.”
