Laura Fjeld graduated from Bryn Mawr College and earned a law degree from the University of California at Berkeley School of Law. After 27 years as a litigator in private practice and five years serving as Vice President and General Counsel to the UNC system, Laura retired from the practice of law in 2013. She won a primary in 2014 to become the Democratic congressional candidate for the NC-06 district. Laura earned a Masters in Fine Arts in Creative Writing in 2022 from the Program for Writers at Warren Wilson College. She and her husband Jon live near Hillsborough, North Carolina.
