Jennifer Hatchett

Office:

Birmingham, AL

Jennifer Hatchett

Development Officer

Jennifer is an 8th-generation Alabamian with connections to every part of the state. That familiarity helps her connect caring people in Alabama to the stories of SELC impact, and opportunities to protect the neighbors, places, and wildlife of the South.

“I also see my role as helping to educate Alabamians on the environmental challenges we face and how we can work together to find solutions ensuring a healthy environment for all,” she said.

Prior to SELC, Jennifer worked for more than two decades in nonprofit public relations, development, and marketing, for organizations spanning arts, education, and civics. Most recently, while serving for a dozen years as executive director of a youth leadership organization, “the youth in that organization inspired me to become more active in environmental justice,” she said.

Jennifer is based in Birmingham, her home for 30 years. She enjoys regular hiking at Ruffner Mountain Nature Preserve, a former iron mining area that community activists saved from development. “The miles and miles of challenging trails are my go-to, and a mental and physical health lifeline for me and so many others during the pandemic,” she said.

At SELC, she leverages her lifelong connections to Alabama’s people and environmental gems. “SELC is incredibly well-run, with a powerful reputation of getting things done in areas where change can be difficult,” Jennifer said. “I am extremely proud to be among such talented people who are out there making a difference every day.”
