Jennifer Camp
Legal Administrative Assistant
Jenny’s work is essential to SELC attorneys in Alabama. She provides administrative and legal support that includes research on environmental issues, assistance with court filings and public comments, and responses to public inquiries about SELC. She also tracks local, regional, and national environmental news, and collaborates with SELC partner organizations.
This work motivates Jenny because of “our focus on community led action and workable solutions to the toughest environmental problems in the South, our work to end the disparate impacts of environmental racism with intelligent strategy and unmatchable passion, and our work to achieve equitable and universal access to clean air, water, and food.”
One proud moment for Jenny was when SELC succeeded in protecting Birmingham’s drinking water for decades. Conservation easements now protect more than 7,000 acres of forested land surrounding Lake Purdy and the Cahaba River basin, making that area safe from urban development for 75 years. “This protected area will help keep treatment costs low for all users of Birmingham’s water supply,” she noted. “It’s a win-win situation.”
The Dunnavant Valley Trail southeast of Birmingham is Jenny’s favorite outdoor getaway, “especially when the trail is covered in the beautiful snowy blossoms of mountain laurel,” she said. “It is always a beautiful, serene location where I can recharge and reconnect.”
