Grace Gibson
Associate Attorney
Grace supports the Land and Community Team by researching state and federal transportation issues and local land use. During the Virginia General Assembly session, she helps advocate for legislation that promotes smart, sustainable land use and transportation planning. Grace also works with SELC’s Regional Gas Team, researching the water protection requirements for the construction of major gas pipelines.
“Land use and transportation have such a deep impact on individuals, families, and communities—both in terms of how people relate to the environment, and how people relate and connect to each other,” Grace said. “Land use and transportation are key components to creating equitable, resilient communities that promote the wellbeing of people and the environment.”
When asked what motivates her, Grace replied, “I work at SELC because I want to do my part to tackle environmental injustice and climate change. I want to do meaningful work that protects the environment and improves the day-to-day lives of people in the South. The breadth of SELC’s work means I get the opportunity to learn something new every day. The depth of knowledge and passion of SELC’s staff is inspiring. I’m excited to have the opportunity to engage in all levels of government.”
Grace grew up in Tampa, and she has “fond memories of traveling from very flat Florida to north Georgia to explore mountains and go tubing for family vacations and summer camp. I’m excited to now live in Charlottesville so close to the Blue Ridge Mountains and continue to explore the city and the surrounding areas.”
