Amitav Kamani
Associate Attorney
Amitav works with the Georgia Energy Team at SELC to fight for lower electric bills and cleaner energy. He supports and contributes to proceedings before the Georgia Public Service Commission on behalf of SELC partners. This work closely tracks utilities’ long range supply plans, which are updated every three years.
“SELC takes on such a clear leadership role and helps facilitate effective advocacy between all the different intervenors, which is amazing to witness,” Amitav said. “I also admire how well-respected SELC is by the PSC, even if they don’t agree with us most of the time. Our attorneys know how to advocate.”
Amitav also builds relationships that form a robust coalition of clean energy advocates in Georgia.
“I have always appreciated that SELC has robust energy teams that not only focus on a transition towards a more affordable, sustainable, and greener future, but also center communities deserving of necessary representation,” he said. “SELC has shown its commitment to serving those who actually live in impacted communities, as opposed to outside interests.”
Amitav’s interest in SELC began as a University of Virginia undergraduate and grew during law school. “I have always been fond of SELC, and once I had an opportunity to intern during law school, I knew I wanted to come back if given the opportunity,” he said.
After attending weddings in Boone, N.C., Amitav rates the town as a favorite place in the SELC region. “What a strong, resilient, and beautiful area it is within the Appalachian Mountains,” he said. “Western North Carolina deserves all the love!”
