Kym Meyer

Litigation Director

Kym works across SELC to identify and advance our most effective legal strategies, mapping out a path to achieving powerful litigation outcomes across the South. With a deep understanding of the legal landscape and the various tools at SELC’s disposal, she helps transform plans for progress into reality.

Many years as one of SELC’s lead litigators prepared her well for this role. As a senior attorney, she has spent endless hours orchestrating the organization’s response to federal funding freezes targeting environmental justice groups and ensuring the public has a voice in projects driven by national agencies. In her home state of North Carolina, she has pushed state officials to design less damaging infrastructure projects and focused on government accountability.

I work for SELC because I am able to make a big impact.

Senior Attorney Kym Meyer

A major undertaking has been partnering with the North Carolina NAACP to challenge two regressive state constitutional amendments put forward by an illegally gerrymandered legislature.

“Our constitution gives voice to everything we hold dear as a state—a free democracy, fair elections, and a respect for all North Carolina citizens—not just those who hold a political majority. The challenge to these two amendments has required grit, determination, and diligence, and been some of the work I am most proud of. I’ve been honored to play a role in this important fight.”

As litigation director Kym takes the expertise she’s gained in a variety of venues and brings it to the full range of SELC’s casework.

“I work for SELC because I’m able to make a big impact,” she said.

Kym is originally from York, England. In the South, one of her favorite places is Cumberland Island, Ga. She loves its “beautiful mix of history, lush forests and stunning beaches – not to mention so much native wildlife.”
