Trey Bussey

Senior Attorney

Trey’s work centers on helping communities develop solutions to climate change and environmental injustice. One example is SELC’s collaboration with local partners in Memphis to shut down the Byhalia crude oil pipeline that would have run through low-wealth, Black communities and wellfields for public drinking water.

With a focus on Tennessee’s energy sector, Trey contributes to litigation teams through research, drafting briefs and pleadings, preparing witnesses, and developing factual records. He advocates in administrative proceedings by coordinating coalition partners and conducting and drafting comments.

Trey grew up in the Sun Belt cities of Houston and Phoenix, and taught school and served in the Peace Corps. He loves hiking and biking through the Southern Appalachian forests to enjoy the region’s unparalleled beauty and biodiversity.
