Katie Shevlin

Katie Shevlin

Chief Development Officer

Katie creates and implements development strategy for SELC from its headquarters in Charlottesville, where she grew up and now raises a family. She leads the development team and serves on the senior leadership team that manages SELC.

When talking about an investment in SELC’s work, she often connects with donors and partners through her own values: “As I think about my children’s future, there is no issue more important than reversing and mitigating the impacts of climate change,” she said. “SELC’s climate program touches the work of each of our other program areas and is working to tackle the most important issue of my lifetime.”

Katie returned to SELC in 2023 after her first stint from 2009 to 2014 and brings more than two decades of fundraising experience. At the University of Virginia, she built and led corporate and foundation fundraising.

Holden Beach in North Carolina is Katie’s favorite outdoors spot in the Southeast. “It’s a beautiful area and a turtle nesting preserve,” she said. “We spent time there with family when I was growing up and now I get to take my own kids there.”
